Nexus Scale

From Nexus D20 Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Nexus Scale System is designed to unify creatures, vehicles, and buildings in a single scale chart. It is based on the concept that the larger something is the greater it can absorb damage out of shear size. Huge objects don't have to be armored to shrug off large impacts. It is just a factor of their mass. This is true of many things. The opposite applies to small objects. A kick that would annoy a large creature could kill a tiny one. By making everything function in the same scale it makes it extremely easy to deal with things of different sizes from any setting.

Wound Scales

This system uses a wound system based on size. Each object has four wound levels listed with them: Light, Moderate, Serious, and Heavy damage. Each one is a range of hit points that the object can take. If the damage total is less then or equal to the light damage range then they take a light wound (-1). If they take greater then light wound but less then or equal to moderate damage then they take a moderate wound (-2) and so on. Damage over the Heavy damage rating is instant death. Moderate damage is twice the light, serious is three times light, and heavy is four times light damage.

There are four scales: Creature, Strong, Heavy, and Adamant levels. The Creature Scale covers natural animals. The Strong level covers creatures that are strong for their size as well as vehicles made of lighter materials like wood, plastics and lighter metals such as modern cars. Heavy covers heavier materials, light milspec vehicles, and reinforced structures. Adamant covers heavy milspec vehicles such as Tanks, and heavily reinforced bunkers.

So between the scale and size of any object an instant wound damage scale can be generated. The listing are Light/Moderate/Serious/Heavy damages for that scale. Each column has the base strength for a creature or vehicle that size. This reflects that it takes more strength to move more mass. They get stronger and tougher as they go to the right side of the table. Size is listed for any object, creature, or vehicle as a size number and the column such as 24B.

There are 5 scale tables with the higher numbers divided by a scale value so that the player won't be overwhelmed by the large numbers and so that the margin rules will still work. Weapons will be listed by scale. If you are applying a weapon out of scale then use the scale values to caluculate a conversion but do so after the weapon's damage value is determined. AP also follows this scale.
