Nexus is not a single setting but a bunch of different settings all tied together by a dimension called the Nexus. Through the Nexus you can reach many Earths. The major limitation however is that only Earths fairly rich in magical energies can be reached through the Nexus because it is a realm of magic. Some settings are of a low mana level, just enough to bridge to from the Nexus. They may know of magic but see it as dangerous and mysterious. Others are high in mana and magic is a part of their everyday lives.

Nexus is a system and a universal setting. Through it you can run any world or genre you want. Several different genre settings are laid out. You can have characters cross over from any genre that your GM wants to allow. This system can be used for a single game or a multiverse game. You can use it to play this setting, your own setting, or even published settings that you like but don't like their system. It is all up to the GM and the players. Have fun with it.

The Nexus

The Nexus is a realm that connects to many different other realms. It also contains objects of it's own, islands floating in a vast astral sea. Some of these are the homes of Sorcerers and their Towers. Some are fragments of other realms, ways of getting to them. Some are alive and have their own agenda. You can travel through the nebula from one Earth to another all floating in the same orbit but each one different. These are the shadows of each Earth in the Nexus. From there you can go into the physical realm.

The Nexus can be traveled by any space going vessel that finds a way to get there. There is no normal air in the Nexus except around the islands. There are blue clouds almost like a nebula that fills the void between the islands. There are also spirits and ghosts in the clouds, as well as large auqatic creatures that move through the Nexus clouds like whale or dragons. They will go around an island but ships can be struck by an uncaring shoulder, tail, or fin. Some spirits can find their way on to ships and cause problems as well.

Despite all these dangers there are people from many realms that risk the Nexus to travel and trade. They trade goods from high tech worlds to low tech worlds or healthy worlds to post apocalyptic ones. Anything to help a world they care for or make a profit if they don't care at all. Anything is possible there. It is a multiversal cross roads.

The Spirit World

Many of these islands and most of the planets have their own realm of nature that reflects the magical nature of their world. This means that there are many realms of the Fey and various Nature Spirits on each Earth and on many of the islands of the Nexus. Some can travel from planet to island to island to planet as if they were riding horses in a vast mist. Others create powerful gate as human mages do allowing them to walk from one gate to another. It is these spirits of Nature that first taught men these magics.

There are also cities in what many people call the Middle World. These spirit cities are echoes of the history of the cities that have been there before. The paths through these cities do not conform to the real world but they often have connections. It is possible to go from the city into the wilderness of the spirit and back but travel is more by intent then navigation. You can also connect with the Astral realms through traveling up into the Upper World. This is the land of thought and the best way to get to the Nexus without a gate. The spirit body that can travel in these worlds is usually called an Astral body but that does not mean that it is restricted to or even starts out every time in the Astral. Most of the time it appears in the Middle World echo of their room.

Each planet and large island can have it's own land of the dead. They are places of darkness and rest that Necromancers reach into to force spirits of the dead to do their bidding. Sometimes the realms of the dead reach into places in the Middle World from this Lower World. This is the source of Haunted Houses.

There are many races that exist on all the many Earths. Some Earths have many intelligent races and others only humanity. Many races have traveled from one Earth to another and are found on several worlds. Others may be examples of parallel growth. Much of this is lost to history or considered a secret.
